SCUTREA has historically worked closely with 'Studies in the Education of Adults', a scholarly international refereed journal that theorises and critically examines the education of adults. We are pleased to promote a call for a special edition on Resilience in Adult Education.

We have invited key thinkers who have played a pivotal role in advancing adult education and the social justice agenda to speak to our co-chairs, Dr Nic Dickson and Dr Sharon Clancy about the future direction of SCUTREA.

Written for the SCUTREA members by Linden West and Barbara Merrill in memory of John Field. John mattered to both of us as a friend, colleague and inspiration. He could be humorous, sharp and questioning while attuned to our struggles as academics in seeking understanding in authentic ways. He was a generous man and a good human being, adult educator and scholar.

On behalf of UALL Trustees, we are sad to report the death of Professor John Field whom many members and colleagues will have known well. John died in early April and we wish to acknowledge the outstanding contribution that he made across his career to the fields of lifelong learning and adult education.
